This includes noting down of patient’s height, weight, vital signs like blood pressure, temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate. In addition to these duties, injections, applying bandages and taking of x-rays is also a part of their duty. However, a simple aide cannot perform it until unless he is not licensed in performing such additional activities. Moreover, they need to carry out these tasks under the supervision of the health care provider.

Specialized Areas of working

According to the degree and education a medical assistant have pursued, the area specification of work also varies. Like an aide working in pediatrics or optometry would be required to carry different set of duties like assessment of patients, patient care, examination, palliative and treatment and follow up procedures.

Medical assistants who have leadership skills and qualities of being a supervisor they get an opportunity to work on a higher position in a health care center. This eventually gives them career advancement opportunities.
